Benefits of using Fuel Injector Cleaner for my Toyota Vios VVT-i Engine
I’ve just done my first major service (40,000KM) at Toyota Service Centre at Prai, Butterworth. Other than normal replacement of those air element filter, engine oil, oil filter, brake oil and many more with the Advanced Max Check, for the first time I’ve being introduce to Fuel Injector Cleaner by the Service Centre. This small bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner cost around RM42 by Toyota. This Fuel Injector Cleaner is to be poured inside the petrol tank and mixed together with petrol. Based on the instruction label behind the bottle, 1 bottle is to be used with less than 35 liters of petrol. For more than 35 liters, 2 bottles would be needed.
According to the Toyota Service guy who served me at that moment, the Fuel Injector Cleaner helps to clean up the injection nozzles, intake valves, combustion chambers and spark plugs from carbons in our engine. Our engine’s injection nozzles, intakes valves, combustion chambers and spark plugs are contaminated with carbons throughout the usage of impurities petrols in Malaysia.
Benefits of Fuel Injector Cleaner on:
- Injection Nozzles – remove deposits from injection nozzle, prevent poor combustion and restores engine performance.
- Combustion Chambers – removes deposits from the combustion chambers, and minimize engine knocking.
- Intake Valves – removes deposits from intake valves, and achieve better accelerator response.
- Spark Plugs – removes carbon accumulated on the spark plugs, prevent misfiring and provides better engine start-up.
So, when are we supposed to use Fuel Injector Cleaners? How do we know when our intake valves, combustion chambers, spark plugs and injection nozzles are contaminated with carbons?
A sign that our Fuel Injectors are dirty is when our car has insufficient power, poor fuel economy, slow engine responsiveness, engine noise and rough idling. This is the time where we should use Fuel Injector Cleaner. I’ve read up some forums stated that typical car moving in Malaysia should use Fuel Injector Cleaner for every 20,000KM to 30,000KM in order to achieve optimum results. The carbons take at least 20,000KM to build up in our engine’s injectors. So, it would not give any effect if we use Fuel Injector Cleaner too frequently.
After fill up the Toyota Fuel Injector Cleaner, I can feel my Toyota Vios is more responsive and ‘lighter’. Great stuff is in my car :) I shall monitor the mileages and update again here.
