The self-driving car looks like it might be the future. Companies like Google have been working on creating autonomous cars for the past couple of years; and the tests they’re undergoing are getting more ambitious. With how well it looks like they’re going, it may not be too long until we see them on the roads. But, are autonomous cars the future? We think they are, and here’s why:

Car Safety

The main positive of autonomous vehicles is that they take driver error completely out of the equation, meaning that they should cause fewer crashes on the roads. At present, and as revealed by Star Rescue, the prototypes aren’t quite perfect. However, they’re still to undergo further testing and tweaks to ensure they’re completely safe before they hit the open roads.

By taking away driver error, they could possibly save lives as well as millions of pounds in damages and insurance claims, which leads us on to our next point…

Cheaper Insurance

If driver error isn’t a factor in crashes, then insurers may be forced to change their business models. Human error causes the majority of the crashes on Britain’s roads, but this would all change. Instead, the car would be insured for manufacturer liabilities and technical failures, something that would shift the fault away from you as the car owner, meaning you won’t pay.

Free Up Your Time

If you spend half an hour commuting to work each way, that’s an hour a day, 5 hours a week and 260 hours in a year! Just imagine what you could do with that time? This a reserved estimate, too. As studies show many of us actually spend upwards of two hours commuting. From sorting your hair and make up to answering emails, sending texts or even helping the kids with their homework, there are literally thousands of way you could use that time. Plus, when you get home, because you’ll have completed all your admin in the car, you can just relax.

Forget the Dreaded Parallel Park

Remember doing all those pesky manoeuvres on your driving test? Ever still dread doing them now? Well, with the autonomous car, you’ll never have to worry about parallel parking or reversing into a really tight bay at the supermarket ever again, as the car does all the work for you. Just think about all the stress that can save.

To conclude, autonomous cars may not quite be available yet but when they are, they’ll revolutionise the world of motoring – we can’t wait.

  1. I agree this is the way of the future. When do you think we will get there? 10 years? Hope so.

      HI Tony,
thanks for dropped by. I believe 10 years are sufficient for us to reach self driving cars 🙂

I definitely need self-driving cars. But then again, this possibility boggles my mind. Can it happen?? I really don’t think so!

      Hey Emily,
It going to happen really really soon. Stay cool when you see the car move around without the driver 🙂
